The Client

The client operates eight busy venues across the UK, including several high-traffic sites in London. Each site produced significant volumes of food, glass, and general waste daily, but lacked a structured waste management system.


Every unit managed its own contract independently — often with different suppliers, varying collection schedules, and no unified policy. This fragmented setup made compliance, cost control, and accountability nearly impossible to maintain.

The Problems

Waste handling had become a growing operational and reputational risk.
The group was recycling very little and had no environmental policy or visibility over where waste was going once collected. This raised serious compliance concerns under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (Section 34), which requires all businesses to take reasonable steps to manage waste responsibly.

High staff turnover made the problem worse — with new employees often left to manage waste without training or clear procedures. Junior staff were responsible for dealing with missed collections, unclear segregation rules, and inconsistent billing from multiple contractors.

Each unit’s independent contract added unnecessary cost and complexity, with little oversight from management. Frequent missed collections disrupted service and created hygiene issues, while rising disposal costs affected profitability.

Our Approaches

Greener World London began by conducting site surveys at all eight venues to fully understand the challenges and design a group-wide improvement plan.

We consolidated waste management across all London-based sites and took on a single point of contact role for the entire group — managing contractors, scheduling collections, and resolving operational issues directly.
